Proteus Digital Health Inc. based out of Redwood City, California is a healthcare technology firm whose mission is to integrate digital health feedback technologies into ingestible products to help patients better manage their health and to collaborate more effectively with their caregivers and clinicians. In a recent press release Proteus Digital Health Inc. had announced “that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared its ingestible sensor for marketing as a medical device.”
The ingestible sensor (powered by your stomach fluid) transmits critical data to a disposable body worn patch. The patch then relays the information to your mobile device. Currently the sensor is capable of detecting the time, identity and characteristics of what you swallow, however there are countless possibilities for how this type of technology can be put to use.
