Samsung’s Solar Powered Internet School Helps Kids Get Online In South Africa

Now this is corporate social responsibility at its finest. Check out this fantastic Solar Powered Internet School Samsung has implemented in Phomolong, (a rural area near Johannesburg) South Africa. The project has been “recognized as the African Solar Project of the Year.”

Students and locals in Phomolong were not used to modern educational facilities or internet access. The solar powered internet school was designed to help children gain easier access to modern technology. The building is a 12 meter container with solar panels installed on the roof enabling the structure to generate nine hours of electricity per day, powering all the electronics within.

The classroom can accommodate up to 21 students, as far as technology is concerned the building is packed with goodies. There is a ”50-inch electronic board, Internet-enabled solar-powered notebooks, Samsung’s Galaxy tablet computers as well as Wi-Fi cameras.” This internet school is awesome and according to Samsung they plan to expand these schools to other regions throughout Africa.
