UCLA has created a different kind of polymer solar cell, one which very much resembles slightly tinted glass. The potential applications for transparent solar cell technology is virtually limitless.
Imagine integrated photovoltaic charging in the screen of a smartphone or the windows of a home offsetting household electricity costs. Thus far, UCLA’s research has achieved a 4% power-conversion efficiency with a maximum visual transparency of 66%. Can’t wait to see this technology integrated into consumer devices!
